Derek’s Newsletter Autumn Equinox -Libra Late September/October 2022

Greetings Friends, Clients & Colleagues near & far, and a very warm  welcome to this month’s LIBRA Newsletter!

As you read this I am about to travel to Egypt with our international group of  Scandinavians & friends from USA, and therefore this Newsletter has many  references to Egyptian wisdom, which I hope you will enjoy.

You are receiving this at the time of the AUTUMN EQUINOX, 23rd.  September this year, as the transit Sun enters the seventh sign of the Zodiac  Libra and we celebrate equal day & night on the planet.

These are very intensive times and yet there are also opportunities for us as  individuals and as nations to come together and express true equality and  the cooperative spirit of sharing.

I shall explore in some depth the deeper significance of the passing of Queen  Elisabeth and the start of the new reign of King Charles 111 of Great Britain.  As an Englishman living in another strong monarchy, here in Denmark, I, like  so many other millions of people all around the world have been affected by  these historical transitions. More about that in my Newsletter.

And for those of you who wish to hear me speak the text, here is the audio: Here

Russia, the death of Mikhail Gorbachev and Putin

Putin’s war on Ukraine has now reached its 7th. month and true to the nature  of the vibration seven (7 days of the week; 7 musical scales; 7 chakras etc.) we now reach a turning point. Ukraine’s recent military offensive has taken  the Russian war machine by surprise as territory taken is now being liberated.  Before this offensive Russia had taken one-fifth of Ukraine, but now Putin  must realize that his army is never going to occupy this country and is facing  yet another military humiliation.

We are entering the Autumn Equinox, exact this year on 23rd. September as  the transit Sun enters Libra. Everything and everyone is being weighed in the  Scales and the climate becomes one of increasing judgment.

On the 30th. August the last leader of the Soviet Union before it collapsed,  Mikhail Gorbachev died in Moscow at the age of 91.

Some of my younger readers will not know who this man was, yet his death  at this point in time is a great symbol for Putin and the Russian Community,  because Gorbachev was the politician was ended the Cold War with the West  and introduced democratic freedom to the Russian peoples. He was  responsible for the dismantling of the nuclear arms race with America and  the creation of a more open Russian society, placing Russia into the  international community of nations.

What a total contrast to the leadership of Putin and the group gathered  around him.

And what is interesting for our Libra Newsletter is that both Gorbachev and  Putin are born with a Libra ASCendant, yet they manifested their version  of cooperation & diplomacy radically different. Both leaders read the  international situation quite different due to their mind-sets.

In Putin’s case, not only is he born with a Libra ASCendant but the Sun is  also positioned here alongside Saturn, Neptune & Mercury. He is subtle and  clever, working behind-the-scenes (12th House symbolism), yet always  manipulative. The planet Venus becomes the dominant Ruler of his chart  because it governs the sign Libra, and when you look at its placement in 1st.  House sign of Scorpio then it is not difficult to recognize that this man takes  great pleasure (Venus) and there is vanity (1st. House) in the execution of  individual power (Scorpio) rather than a true Librian spirit of cooperation.

Gorbachev was born with his Venus in Capricorn, showing the pleasure  in duty and organisational powers, conjunct Saturn (Fate) and both in  opposition to Mars & Pluto, power planets which suggests lots of opposition  to his reforms, yet giving him the destiny to see beyond personal interests.

So when Gorbachev experienced both his second Saturn Return and his fifth  Jupiter Return during the period 1990-91, the only time in life when these  planets return to their natal positions simultaneously, this “Golden Age”  period resulted in the tearing down of the Berlin War, a symbol of the Cold  War and the dissolution of the Soviet Empire – all initiated by Gorbachev’s  visionary politics. Remember that momentous year 1991?

The contrast with Putin’s leadership is the complete opposite, the loss of all  democratic freedoms and the imposition of a State controlled hierarchy upon  the people. So the death of Gorbachev at this critical time in Russian history  is a powerful reminder to both the Russian society and the current regime of  its adopted path that they are working towards, which represents a  completely different climate - one of oppression rather than freedom &  openness. Normally such a person would be given a State funeral – but this  is not Putin’s wish for former leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Yet the universal  timing of his death is just perfect…..

For those of you interested in the astrological dimension, you will find it  educational to see that Putin’s natal Sun-Saturn conjunction in Libra,  forms the challenging square (90-degree) aspect to the USA Sun in  Cancer from the 1776 birth horoscope of America. It will be hard for Putin to  trust the USA.

President Joe Biden has his natal Mars just 1-degree away from Putin’s natal  Venus in Scorpio – will he energize Putin’s best or worst Venusian  characteristics?

But as a final comment, what could the astrologer forsee when slow-moving  Neptune, (increased contact with the invisible worlds) which is conjunct his  Libra ASCendant at birth, moves into dynamic square aspect to his natal  Mars at 26½-degrees Sagittarius from late April 2023 onwards? And this  difficult aspect will be repeated several times during next year and into early  2024.

Energy (Mars) is being withdrawn (Neptune) and this fire (Mars) and water  blend (Neptune) will not be an easy mix.

As Mars governs his 6th. House of Health, the sign of Aries, it will not be any  surprise to see a deterioration of his body’s strength and immunity in the  coming year, brought upon through a disastrous military (Mars) campaign  that gains nothing, and certainly not the Empire expansion that he dreamed  of achieving with annexation of Ukraine. Transit Saturn will also leave  Aquarius and enter Pisces next year and form a series of challenging square  aspects to Putin’s natal Moon in early Gemini. These are not indications of  victory externally nor internally but a reversal of fortune and increased  emotional isolation. The pendulum of Libra swings……

“The Queen is dead – Long Live the King!”

At the time of writing this Newsletter, Queen Elisabeth 11 of Great Britain has  died at the age of 96, after 70 years on the throne, the longest reigning  monarch ever. And with her death 8th September, her son, Prince Charles  automatically becomes the new King thus ensuring the continuity of the  Monarchy. The new king Charles 111, takes office at the age of 73, and one  could clearly state that he has been groomed for this role since childhood.

There is much that could be said about these historical events that we are all  witness too, but for this next section of the Newsletter, I want to explore the  death of Queen Elisabeth. I do this for several reasons, but mainly because  when such a well-known personality leaves the physical plane, this confronts  us all with the inevitable theme of mortality, and our own use of the time  available before we too embark upon the Great Adventure.

With the death of her father, King George VI, Princess Elisabeth became  Queen and ascended to the throne in 1952, the year of my birth. She was born with 21-degrees of the sign Capricorn on her ASCendant, the  exact same degree and sign rising when I was born.

So yes, millions of people have identified with this extraordinary woman and  have displayed their respect and admiration for her dignity, selfless service, constancy and utter devotion to duty and to people, yet I want to approach  her from the viewpoint of the soul. Here is Queen Elisabeth’s birth

When I looked at the death chart for Mikhail Gorbachev the progressed Moon  has reached the bottom of the chart, symbolizing the Root Chakra and energy  centre for our connection to the Earth dimension. In Astrology this 4th House  cusp, directly opposite the highest point or Midheaven, is often registered as  “the end of life conditions”, so the Moon’s movement over this highly sensitive  point was instrumental in providing a Portal for exit.

I wrote a book about this subject “Entry & Exit: Your Birth & Death Horoscope” which was printed in Sweden 10 years ago, December 2012, and in that book  I described that when the planetary ruler of the 7th. House cusp and the 8th House cusp get activated by current transits & progressions, then this  provides a possible Portal for exit from the physical plane. There can be 5-7  such portals throughout the normal life span, but just like the birth time is  engineered by the indwelling soul, so too is the timing of our exit.

In Gorbachev’s chart Aries governs both his 7th and 8th. House cusps, so  when transit Pluto, archetype of death & rebirth, moving slowly through the  last part of Capricorn formed the dynamic opposition to his natal Mars in the  sign Cancer, positioned in his 10th. House, this was one of those times when  the astrologer could predict this Portal opening and his exit from the physical  plane now approaching.

I mention this fact because when I explored Queen Elisabeth’s exit, I found  the same planetary symbolism of the Moon and Mars active at the time of  death as Gorbachev. A curious coincidence perhaps, but it pointed me in the  direction of wanting to share these observations.

The 7th. House cusp in the Zodiac represents the sign Libra, which is a sign  that represents entry into the bigger, wider world, signified not only through  marriage, but because now we move above the horizon line, as the previous  6 zodiacal signs were concerned with a more personal interior development.

So if the 1st. House or ASCendant is identified with our birth onto the physical  plane as an individual, then the opposite point, 7th House and the symbolism  of Libra, represents “death” as an individual and entering the larger world  view. There are countless examples from client work to demonstrate this  reality. When we also include the 8th. House cusp, traditionally the area we  associate with the process of transformation, which includes death, both  psychological and physical, and our entry into the non-physical realms of  existence, then we have a powerful tool for working with the theme of Entry  & Exit.

Returning to Queen Elisabeth’s horoscope, if Capricorn is on the Ascendant  then we look to the opposite point, the sign of Cancer and its planetary Ruler,  the Moon for our first reference. This is because it will be the Moon that  provides the trigger mechanism for exit. Then her 8th. House cusp begins in  the middle of Virgo, with its planetary Ruler, Mercury providing us with the  second reference.

When Queen Elisabeth died, her progressed Moon had reached an exact  conjunction to her natal Mars in Aquarius. The transit Moon in the skies  on the day of death was also at the exact same placement, 21 degrees  Aquarius and conjunct the planet of Fate & Destiny Saturn positioned  in the same degree – a remarkable astrological concentration. Doctors had  pointed out her problems with mobility and circulation, symbolic of this  planetary combination. The time had come to let go of this incarnation and  move address to a new location.

And Mercury, ruler of the 8th. House cusp – how was this involved  simultaneously?

Transit Mercury was in early Libra and in opposition to its natal placement at  4½-degrees Aries. And then transit Jupiter, the ruler of the Ascendant on the  death chart, was also conjunct natal Mercury. It was this combination of  planets that indicated her Portal of Exit was opening and the Death Chart can  therefore be read and understood as signing out of this lifetime and your  Cosmic Obituary.

Here is the Queen’s birth chart in the centre and the Death chart placed on  the outer ring.

Although I can appreciate that most of my readers are not students of  astrology or practising astrologers, yet everyone is challenged to acquire a  healthy relationship to death. Nature accustoms us to this phenomena of  forms changing with the passing of the seasons, and we move now into the  Autumn season, having experienced the “death” of the summer here in our  northern hemisphere. Every evening we sleep and die to this world and enter  our dream state, and with every morning we are reborn. Nature enables us  to experience this phenomena of death & rebirth every evening and every  morning – and yet we still have a collective attitude of self-denial towards  death. What have we learnt from 2 years of Covid and the death of loved  ones? Have our attitudes to heaven & hell changed or been redefined?

We live in a time where there is such an imbalance of emphasis put on being  in the light. Why is everyone so scared of the dark? How do we help people  get past their initial resistance to embracing the dark side? As you know from life, whatever we fear, we give power to, and our fear of  death is giving away our power, a power that needs to be reowned. When we  have such a fear of death, it partly stems from a fear of judgment and a fear  of the unknown.

First of all, it is important that we recognize there is no other judge out there  but you. You are it.

Secondly, we are all destined to come up against the unknown because this  is the way of transpersonal unfoldment. And to be open to the unknown is to  develop your powers of trust. And the opposite is true when you are fearful.  Fear closes you down and you become less free. When we are more open  we become freer.

The ancient Egyptians with their deep understanding of Universal Laws and  Life Cycles were not obsessed with death as some academics would have  us believe, no, they had a very realistic viewpoint about the Journey of the  Soul after relinquishing its physical sheath, our limited Ego-Personality with  its body, emotions and mind-sets. People tend to look at the funerary rites of  the Egyptians as morbid and archaic – but they are not. What we call the  Egyptian Book of the Dead they called The Book of Awakening & Coming  into the Light. That gives you a totally different emphasis does it not?

They even made maps of the landscapes that you and I would be travelling  through to guide us in our navigation of the Underworld or Otherworldly  states.

The horoscope is one such map. The birth horoscope can be understood as  the set of instructions that you have given from Spirit levels to work through  during this incarnation. This is your “Entry”, and with “Exit”, we have the final  school report, a culminating statement of this lifetime. Birth can be seen as  “death” to the spiritual realms, whereas Death is “birth” onto the spiritual  realms. As our Aquarian Age progresses, connecting our birth horoscope  with a previous lifetime and its planetary positions, and with your future life  and the new horoscope, will confirm the nature of the soul and it’s  evolutionary journey through the Zodiac. That is why the Death horoscope  will become an invaluable tool for recognizing our Soul’s Journey. In my work I have come to appreciate that the Death horoscope will indicate the  Planetary Bardo States that we shall work through, the in-between lives state  of consciousness before we reincarnate.

This is obviously a huge area of research, which is why I wrote a book about  the subject, now available as an ebook in English (400 pages).  Let us just consider Queen Elisabeth’s Death chart as her Cosmic Obituary. The Palace authorities did not indicate the time of death, only that it was in  the afternoon. I have speculated about the time and come to a time of 15.15  when 22-degrees of Sagittarius is upon the Ascendant. Here is the chart for  her exit:

In the previous illustration you saw the Synasty between the birth chart of the  Queen and the Death chart placed around her horoscope. Now we are  considering the Death chart on its own.

The seriousness (Moon conjunct Saturn) and the humour (Ascendant Ruler  Jupiter in Aries in opposition to Mercury) of the Queen was well known  throughout her long life, so it is natural that her Cosmic Obituary should make  the same statement. Yet the presence of Sagittarius rising at the time of her  death suggests a joyful acceptance of the new journey and a movement  towards the higher dimensions. Jupiter corresponds with long distance  journeys, both outer and inner, and with education. This soul was enthusiastic  about the educational directions awaiting her on the higher planes. Jupiter is  also the traditional planet of religion and faith. One of the titles of the King or  Queen is Defender of the Faith, referring to the Protestant religion and she  was during her lifetime empowered by her faith. And so will it be at death.

10

Perhaps the presence of the Virgo Sun in the 8th House also stimulates the  soul’s deep desire for self-improvement and training in increased contact with  the non-physical dimensions of life, thus preparing her for the next  incarnation.

As the Sun represents the heart-beat and quality of life, thus when the heart  stops beating this is technically the end of our life. Esoteric teachings state  that the soul takes up where it left off from one incarnation to the next and  therefore if she dies when transit Sun is travelling through Virgo, then the  future life will revolve around these Virgo-Mercury characteristics. Although  it seems quite natural to understand and interpret this teaching to mean that  when you were born, the Sun occupies the sign where you died and took exit  last time, however it is a bit more complex than a simple equation. Yet  nevertheless, the basic idea is one of continuity, taking up where one left off  last time and continuing the soul’s evolutionary journey.

You will also note the flowing trine aspect between the Sun and Uranus in  the 4th House, which makes the sharp contrast with the Moon-Saturn  conjunction. Here we see tradition & conservatism mixed with breaking away  from the past and forging new alternative pathways. That was part of the  Queen’s struggle during her lifetime and especially connected with various  crises within the Royal family. Being Custodian of traditions that have deep  roots from historical times past and honouring those traditions while at the  same time being open to new approaches is never an easy mixture of  energies. And that will be the on-gong challenges that follow this soul into the  Bardo States and next lifetime.

There is also shown a Sun-Mars square at death, and as Mars occupies the  6th House of Health, the sign of Gemini, the body-mind coordination and inner  conflict would have resulted in strong nervous disorders at the time of  passing. In an earlier section of this Newsletter I pointed out that her birth  chart and progressions at the time of death pointed to the significance of Mars  & the Moon. Perhaps this refers to inflammation, a typical Mars issue, or  psychologically speaking, some strong emotional reactions, even anger at  this closure. Only the soul will know the answer to that, yet the overall tone  of the Death horoscope shows a life of service to the community and an  eagerness to explore new horizons.

“God save the Queen, send her victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign  over us, God save the Queen!”

And then we have the horoscope of the new King Charles 111.

The royal sign of Leo rises and the planetary ruler is the Sun positioned in  the sign of Scorpio. The modern planetary ruler of Scorpio is Pluto, Lord of  the Underworld, and it’s placement is in 1st. House Leo. When planets sit in  the sign that are ruled by each other we call that “Mutual Reception” and  refers to a particular strength and attunement to both planetary principles.

On top of that, the Sun forms a strong square aspect to Pluto, showing us  that King Charles is truly attuned to personal transformation, various  emotional crises and the death & rebirth cycle. Like the Scorpio snake, this  allows the individual to shed its skin and rejuvenate and regenerate both  himself and those around.

Think of the fate described by the fact that his marriage to Lady Diana and  Camilla Parker Bowles reveals they are both Sun-sign Cancerians and  where is the sign Cancer on his chart? This is his 12th. House. Probably Diana  was beyond his understanding and Camilla activated his 12th. House secrets,  as they conducted their affair behind-the-scenes. Yet both women would  have stimulated his hidden life and brought him into connection with the  mystery of life and karma. The sign Cancer is governed by the Moon so let’s  focus upon some simple references to it’s placement in his horoscope.

12

Charles was also born with the Moon entering Taurus situated in the 10th House or Career or Vocation, which clearly points to his public position and  his great sensitivity to public opinion. It also reveals his closeness to his  mother as the Queen has her Sun in Taurus exactly conjunct her son’s  Moon at 1-degree Taurus. It is this aspect that shows her dominance (Sun) over his lifestyle (Moon) as the many years of their relationship clearly reveal.  And rather relinquish the throne and let Charles become King, she held out  to the end, letting death decide the matter. He assumes his new role at the  age of 73.

Do my readers know that before one can become the Monarch of Great  Britain, first you become the Prince of Wales, which is a long tradition dating  back to the reign of Edward 1st. from the 12th Century. The new King Charles  upon entering his new role appointed his son William as the new Prince of  Wales and future heir to the throne of Great Britain.

What is highly significant about the small country of Wales is that it is the  only country in the world that has adopted the Dragon as it’s National  symbol. And as you all know, the Dragon is a mythical and powerful creature,  guarding treasure.

Part of the story for this is linked with the great magician Merlin or Myrradin in Welsh who saw the red & white dragons at the base of a great Tower the  King at that time was building. Today the national costume for Wales looks  like this:

And yes, you will quickly see that the archetypal pointed-hat of the magician  is the inspiration behind the national costume. Magic is the basis for the  Welsh soul and one outstanding indication of this is the traditional Welsh love  of song & poetry. The power of sound and the magic of words.

In the films of Harry Potter, this very same magical “sorting hat” appears in  both the beginning and end of the series – remember?

For the ancient Egyptians the Dragon is also known as the serpent or Royal  Uraeus snake that you see protruding from the Brow of the King’s Crown,  which is clearly a statement of inner illumination and clear seeing. The  dragon, snake or serpent symbolism is found all over the world, from China  to South America, Egypt to Great Britain. The more esoteric teaching behind  the adopted national symbols of a flag or coat-of-arms is that the figure(s)

represents the inner guardian or folk soul of the people, whose presence  overshadows the Destiny of the Nation.

In the illustration you see the Red Dragon of Wales and the feather badge or  personal coat-of-arms of Prince Charles, now King Charles 111, with the  Motto: “Ich Dien” – I serve.

In the next section of this Newsletter I will draw your attention to the all  important white feather symbolism in ancient Egypt which represented the  Goddess of Truth & Universal Justice, Ma’at.

Here in the personal badge or King Charles we can get a glimpse of the future  character of his reign.

You have all been watching excepts from the TV showing the Queen’s death  at her beloved Balmoral Castle in Scotland and the lying in state at St. Giles  Cathedral in Edinburgh, before the State funeral in London19th September. Much has been made of the fact that Scotland was always considered the  “home” of the Queen and the Royal family and there are various historical  roots linking the Kings of Scotland with the English monarchy. But let us now,  once again, put on our esoteric Eye of Light and reflect upon the national  coat-of-arms of Great Britain. Here we see mythical and powerful archetypes  once again. The shield of the monarchy is supported by the Lion on one side  and the Unicorn on the other side. The Lion is a regal animal and represents  England while the Unicorn represents Scotland. From the inner side of life,  there are many good reasons why the focus has been upon Scotland during  these strongly emotional days in the Nation’s life. Note that the crown is not  upon the Unicorn’s head but sits upon it’s neck and throat. As the  Unicorn is a symbol of clear seeing and pure motives perhaps it is the task  of the new King to inaugurate new spiritual vision & inspiration to the nation.

The famous sleeping prophet Edgar Cayce spoke of the Destiny of Nations way back in 1931 before the second World War and England was described  as the “balancing power” in the world. When England begins to consider  every phase of her relationship with other countries “more and more it will be  able to control the world for peace” he said and added,”From England will  come the IDEAS”, such as the Law system, the Commonwealth of Nations,  the model of collective cooperation between nations. There are many  examples of how IDEAS have come out from England and been planted  successfully elsewhere.

From England & Great Britain come the IDEAS, but from America comes the  IDEALS.

Alice Bailey, writing in the book “Destiny of the Nations” speaks about Great  Britain expressing the WILL TO POWER, on account of age and experience  dearly bought and today being mellowed by justice and a growing  understanding of human need.

The USA expresses the WILL TO LOVE, which shows itself in an ability to  absorb vastly divergent elements and yet to present equal opportunity to all.  Its method is not that of slow adjustment, as demonstrated in Great Britain,  but of quick assimilation.

And then we have Russia which expresses the WILL TO CREATE and to  eventually produce new conditions and a new order. This will be brought  about by the activity of the proletariat. An enlightened public opinion is the  most potent force in the world. That is a statement valid for all people and all  nations. The Russian people will need to rise up and demonstrate their

understanding of this – and that will happen, although the route to the  achievement of this is full of inevitable pain and sorrow.

The idea of Communism is both ancient and simple, and in many ways  sensible and admirable. Private ownership creates inequalities which carry  with them injustices, which generate tensions and lead to conflict. Therefore,  property should belong to the community as a whole.

It might seem strange from today’s perspective, but Russia has had the vision  to create a new world order more in line with the symbolism of Aquarius than  any other so far attempted.

In the eyes of the inner spiritual government of our planet, there are no  Englishmen, French, German, Danes & Swedes, Russian or American, no  white or black, yellow or blue, but simply HUMANITY – one and indivisible. So when we talk about seeking unity, what we are seeking is in no way  related to uniformity.

To be real and have lasting value, it is essential to achieve UNITY-IN DIVERSITY, to celebrate our outer diversity and inner unity. We have  consistently emphasized the importance of national citizenship – but have  neglected the needed sense of world citizenship. Global climate change that  affects all, is just one example of the need to think globally and act locally. The war in Ukraine is another, affecting food crises and shortage of energies such as oil & gas, the natural resources of the planet.

So in spite of the growing tendency towards a subjective unity, it is a sad fact  that the atmosphere conditioning international relations is one in which  distrust, fear and insecurity often prevail, reinforcing a sense of negativity in  world affairs. It is vital that this climate be transformed into one of goodwill  and belief in the future.

Today the Russians are suffering from the glamour of POWER, the glamour  of prestige, totalitarianism and militarialism. Russia is being retarted by a  dictatorship which will shortly end. In the USA there is the issue of corrupt  politics and in Great Britain by ancient imperialistic tendencies. China and  North Korea present a similar picture.

POWER is concept that is much maligned today. It has been cheapened so  that it has come to mean a negative use of strength for selfish purposes.  Power has come to mean “coercion” through the stimulation of fear.  But, power does have a nobler meaning, for it is used to describe the One  Life, the power of the Spirit to make all things new. Power is the essential  energy of Godhead, and it is that which enables the individual, as well as  nations, to pass from a lower state into a higher state.

This brings us full circle and back to the symbolism of the healing power of  the Unicorn’s horn. May the new King Charles work together with both the  Lion & the Unicorn!

Perhaps the crown that sits around the Unicorn’s neck in the Royal Coat-of Arms of Great Britain could suggest that we create new realities through  speaking truth and more authentic living. Things that need to be said and  acted upon, will now take on a new vitality, after all, it is the throat that  connects the Head & the Heart, it is the bridge between a more dynamic flow  of spiritual energy to our everyday world.

We have already seen these tendencies in the life of Prince Charles,  establishing alternative health clinics in Bristol for cancer patients, setting up  Charities that support young people and the expression of their talent, his  work with climate change, alternative technologies, new architecture and a  lot more too. There is great hope for this new King Charles 111 to promote  some form of renaissance. Exciting times indeed ahead.

Every nation has its psychological strengths and weaknesses, and like the  individual, each has to learn to eliminate its inner conflicts & complexes, to  integrate and become a “whole” entity. And perhaps even more important, to  infuse its life with its soul qualities, thus producing recognition of its common  interest in the welfare of all nations & its rightful contribution to human  destiny.

We shall now turn our attention to ancient or rather, Eternal Egypt, for this  was a civilization that manifested it’s soul qualities for all to see – and we  today have much to learn from it’s great light – that is what is meant by Eternal for they brought Universal Truths into the everyday life, that are as valid today

as they were during that distant time period 5000 years ago. And as I am taking a group of international Seekers exploring the Eternal  Wisdom of Egypt right now, as you read these words, it seems appropriate  to bring the energy of Libra into your awareness in another way.

In ancient Egypt the Supreme Creator Sun-God RA (LIGHT) put his daughter  MA’AT (TRUTH) in place of primordial Chaos.

There is a fundamental concept, abstract and yet vitally real, which colours  all the myth, the morality and the life of the ancient Egyptian – this is MA’AT. Divine entities and human beings alike live – “By MA’AT, in MA’AT and for  MA’AT”.

This single name expresses all concepts of Harmony, Equilibrium, Rhythm  and Poise. MA’AT is also the symbol of harmony portrayed in both music and  dance.

The Scales, and MA’AT’s symbol, the white ostrich Feather, characterise her  presence and influence on all life.

The Woman holding the Scales of Justice is a well known image in our  modern world, and such a figure sits on the top of the building in London  where the Law Courts are situated.

She therefore represents honesty, accuracy, fairness, faithfulness and  becomes the emblem of the Judge – yet Cosmic Justice (Karma), the symbol  of Universal Truth, authenticity, that which is real.

MA’AT does not judge – She is consciousness itself, and consciousness in  action is really what the Law of Karma represents. Karma is not punishment,  a very Judeo-Christian concept, but the meeting of a situation or person with  whom there is unfinished business and the opportunity to bring the  circumstances to a successful conclusion.

This is the main reason why Aleister Crowley, the creator of the 21st. Century  Tarot masterpiece, “The Thoth Tarot”, changed the traditional title of Key 8  Justice, to “Adjustment”. Adjustment means adjusting to changing realities and not the concept of Justice linked with judgment.

19

In this image we see before us the Goddess Maat, representing the zodiacal  sign of Libra, in perfect balance, standing on tiptoe at the very point of her  sword. An enormous set of balances suspends from the perfect point of her  crown, with the ostrich feathers. The left scale pan holds the Alpha and the  right pan the Omega.

Crowley calls this Adjustment card, the feminine counterpart of The Fool, the only unnumbered in the deck of 78 cards. The significance of this should not be lost by the casual reader of these words. The Fool, representing “Spirit” is the most powerful and significant of all the Tarot cards and is the source and destiny of all the other cards. The Fool and the Adjustment cards are married to each other. To explore this connection further will inevitably lead us into profound esoteric mysteries.

So MAAT is the individual consciousness that each person carries in their  heart – for She is the motivating force and goal of life.

An ancient Coffin text tells us: “When the Heavens were sleeping (i.e. inert,  unconscious state) I lived with my daughter Maat, one within me, the other  around me”.

This reveals the meaning of the phrase – The Double Maat – so we have  individual Consciousness (Microcosm) and Cosmic/Universal  Consciousness (Macrocosm).

In the Egyptian world view, you entered the Halls of The Double Maat at the  time of your departure from the physical dimension and went through a  challenging Judgment Scene, being asked 42 questions related to your life.  Your heart was weighed in one pan of the Scales and the Feather of Truth was placed in the other pan.

If the heart of the deceased balanced against the feather then the deceased  was considered pure of heart - which is a wonderful image for us modern  folk, for the heart represents our conscience. Here is that famous scene.

The Hall in which MAAT sat in double form to hear the “confession” of the  dead is often depicted in the Book of the Dead, or to give it its correct  Egyptian title: “The Book of the Coming Forth by Day” – quite a different  emphasis don’t you think?

The deceased had to answer these 42 questions and to declare that he/she  has done MAAT and purified themselves with MAAT before they could gain  admittance to join Osiris in the Kingdom of Light and have his/her name  recorded for Eternity. These are wonderful teachings that are as relevant  today as they were for the ancient Egyptians - this is so because they are  ETERNAL TRUTHS.

It will also show us how much our fate is determined by the truth we speak.

Indeed, we can say that the entire sophisticated Egyptian Temple training  was focussed upon unfolding this “INTELLIGENCE WITHIN THE HEART”,  and a recognition that, “AS A MAN THINKETH IN HIS HEART, SO HE IS.” MAAT represents our ability to walk in truth, walk in integrity, to be truthful,  authentic and pure of intention. She is intimately involved in our continual  process of the renewal of the human heart.

MAAT moves and directs existence – and MAAT is its ultimate treasure. That  is why for more than 40 centuries Egypt was the custodian of great wisdom. No other culture has integrated Astrological Wisdom so successfully into their  everyday culture as the ancient Egyptians.

21 The Astrologer-Priest of their times were called “Masters of the Secrets of the  Heavens” and they claimed that to be born into the Universal & Cosmic  Consciousness (MAAT) the Rightness & Order which have reigned since the  Beginning of things, a culture must accept the rightness and order which has  reigned on the heavenly plane since the Beginning. No other culture has  practised this marriage between Heaven and the Earth as the ancient  Egyptians – As Above, So Below.

MAAT was The Lady of Heaven and Queen of the Earth. She was the highest  conception of physical and moral law & order known to the Egyptians. She  would later become known to the Gnostics as Sophia.

MAAT is the archetypal principle representing the unifying cosmic force of  ancient Egypt – that of truth, balance and order. More than any other deity in  the Egyptian pantheon, MAAT demonstrates the truth of the phrase: “the  light, the dark, no difference.” The experience of duality is an essential aspect  of our humanity and the resolution of the opposites within us is the key step  toward the realization of our divinity.

Here is the all-important esoteric Keynote for the sign of

“I choose the way which leads between the two great lines of force.”

Exercise: The Scales of MAAT

This exercise is used for ascertaining the real intentions or purpose behind  any situation. For example, someone offers you a closer friendship, or a  gift about which you feel strangely uncomfortable. Or a situation arises  that requires a decision on your part but which you find yourself viewing  with a degree of illogical suspicion.

The Scales of MAAT are said to bring the truth of the matter into the open  with a “three”, usually 3 days but sometimes 3 weeks.

METHOD:

Visualize a pair of Scales (or you can work ritually with real scales if you  prefer).

On the left hand balance place a representation of the problem i.e.  something either symbolic of, or practically related to the situation. On the right hand balance place the white feather of Truth.

If you are working through “mind magic” then make a mental picture of  yourself raising the scales and handing them to MAAT.

As you do so, you will sense them becoming lighter and lighter and rising  as though weightless, until they are taken from your hands and gradually  disappear into the regions of light above.

It is essential to wait until you get some real presence that the Goddess  MAAT relieves you of your burden – yet experience shows that this  normally takes place rather quickly.

Simple isn’t it? Then just sit back and wait.

If worked ritually, the Scales, set with the feather on one side and some  small item that identifies the problem on the other, are offered to MAAT  with an accompanying prayer. This is something you can compose  yourself.

The two items must then be ritually burned and the ashes dispersed to the  4 points of the compass with due thanks to MAAT and the 4 Elements.

I am delighted to announce a new creative presentation that invites  personal transformation.

Exploring your personal Myth through Astrology.

The Hero/Heroine is always to be found within ourselves. The adventures of the  Hero are those of our own psyche as we journey into the depths & do battle with  the subterranean forces – and then come back renewed and victorious.  Deep within us is where new answers can be found and new ideas born.

The Heroic Journey strikes such a deep chord in the lives and imagination of all  peoples because we are the Heroes and Heroines of our own life drama and we  recognize their journey as ours. Their adventures are the archetypal models for  the process of human growth & change.

A potential Parsifal or Pinocchio, Psyche or Cinderella gazes back at us every time  we look into the mirror.

To work with a myth and to relate to it meaningfully is to rediscover the unknown,  the magic in life. You can do this by searching for the deeper meaning a myth has  for you. And to help focus the process we work with the 12 Zodiac signs and the  landscape of our own horoscope. And if we want to, we can rewrite our storyline.
